In Memory of Our Founder, Jim Wilcox 1942-2006

Shortly after retiring from thirty years of university teaching, Jim Wilcox was diagnosed with cancer and treated at the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) in Salt Lake City. In 2000, he and his wife of thirty-four years, Ethel, were inspired to create Wasatch Baskets & Gifts. They committed their time and money to building a business that would spread the word about the importance of cancer research (while at the same time offering a great product to the public).

Today, this once home-based operation has grown into a production facility of nearly 10,000 square feet. Wasatch Baskets & Gifts has won numerous awards for service to the community. Jim and Ethel were featured in a television commercial for the Huntsman Cancer Institute and have freely donated their time to support public relations efforts to promote cancer research and early screenings.

Sadly, Jim passed in February 2006 of advanced colon cancer. However, we know that the six years we had with Jim after his initial diagnosis were due to the cutting edge treatment he received at Huntsman Cancer Institute. We are forever grateful for their dedication and service.

Thank you for visiting our website!

“Huntsman Cancer Institute’s mission is to understand cancer from its beginnings, to use that knowledge in the creation and improvement of cancer treatments, to relieve the suffering of cancer patients, and to educate the public about cancer risk, prevention and care.”  www.huntsmancancer.org
